Himalayan Locals

Customer Conduct Policy

How we expect everyone — travellers, staff, and partners — to show up so the trip stays safe, joyful and respectful for everyone involved.

1. Why this matters

We run small, deeply personal trips through fragile mountain communities. The behaviour of every traveller directly shapes the experience of the group, the safety of the team, and the welcome that future travellers receive in those villages. This policy makes our expectations explicit so there's no ambiguity on either side.

2. What we're trying to protect

  • The safety and wellbeing of every traveller, guide and local team member
  • The integrity of the natural and cultural environments we visit
  • Group harmony — small groups only work when everyone shows up well
  • A culture of respect, responsibility and mindful travel

3. What we expect from you

Listen to your team

  • Follow instructions from guides, drivers and partners
  • Stick to the briefed itinerary and safety protocols
  • Engage actively — don't lone-wolf decisions in remote terrain

Treat people well

  • Courtesy and dignity towards everyone — fellow travellers, locals, staff
  • Zero tolerance for harassment, abusive language or discriminatory behaviour
  • Help build a positive group dynamic

Stay safe

  • Use the safety equipment provided
  • Stay within designated areas
  • Be honest with us about your physical and mental fitness

Care for the place

  • Don't litter — pack out what you pack in
  • Don't disturb wildlife or damage natural / cultural sites
  • Follow our Sustainability Policy in spirit and in practice

Be on time

  • Arrive ready for departures and activities
  • Communicate concerns early and constructively

4. What's not okay

Personal conduct

  • Excessive alcohol or drug use
  • Physical or verbal aggression
  • Harassment in any form

5. If something goes wrong

Financial implications can include forfeiture of trip costs, charges for damages, and in rare cases legal action.

Step 1 — Conversation

  • A verbal or written warning from your guide / team lead
  • An opportunity to course-correct immediately

Step 2 — Removal (if needed)

6. Adventure activities

  • No refunds are issued for safety-driven exclusions

7. Cultural engagement

  • Dress modestly when visiting villages, monasteries and homes
  • Always ask before photographing people
  • Buy from local shops and artisans — your money matters

8. Health & fitness

  • Be honest about your physical and mental condition
  • Disclose any relevant medical conditions before booking
