Travel Insurance Policy

Why we strongly recommend insurance, what to look for in your cover, and what falls outside what we can be responsible for.

1. The principle

Mountain travel involves risks no operator can fully control — weather, altitude, road closures, medical emergencies, lost luggage. Travel insurance is the most reliable way to protect yourself against the financial impact of those risks. We strongly recommend every traveller secures comprehensive cover before joining a trip.

2. What good cover looks like

Trip disruption

  • Cancellation due to personal reasons (illness, family emergency)
  • Cancellation due to weather or natural events
  • Cancellation due to third-party failures
  • Travel delays and missed connections

Medical emergencies

  • Comprehensive in-hospital and outpatient cover
  • Specific cover for altitude-related conditions (AMS, HAPE, HACE)
  • Emergency evacuation — including helicopter rescue
  • Cover valid in remote Himalayan regions

Personal property

  • Lost or delayed baggage
  • Personal-belongings cover (cameras, phones, gear)
  • Travel-document replacement

Adventure-activity cover

  • Trekking up to your trip's max altitude
  • Road trips and SUV expeditions
  • Motorcycle riding (if relevant to your trip)
  • Specialised mountain activities you're booked on

3. How to arrange it

  • Insurance is not included in our trip packages.
  • You arrange it independently with an insurer of your choice.
  • Best done at the time of booking — many policies cover cancellations from purchase date.
  • Match the policy to the specific nature of your trip (altitude, activity type, region).

4. What we don't do

  • We don't sell or provide travel insurance ourselves.
  • We don't process or facilitate insurance claims on your behalf.
  • We can offer general guidance and refer you to reputable providers — that's it.

5. Your responsibilities

You're responsible for:

  • Honestly assessing the risks of your chosen trip
  • Selecting a policy that genuinely covers those risks
  • Reading and understanding your policy's terms and exclusions
  • Carrying proof of insurance with you on the trip
  • Sharing your policy details with us during booking
  • Maintaining a list of emergency contacts
  • Knowing how to file a claim with your provider

6. What we can't be responsible for

By booking with us, you accept the financial responsibility for these risks — which is exactly what insurance is designed to mitigate.

  • Incidents outside our operational control
  • Weather-driven disruptions or road closures
  • Failures by third-party service providers
  • Personal injuries during free time or off-itinerary activities
  • Loss or damage to personal property

7. Why this matters in the Himalayas

  • Weather can change in minutes
  • Locations are genuinely remote — sometimes hours from the nearest hospital
  • Medical infrastructure is limited at high altitudes
  • Terrain is challenging and altitude effects are real
  • Transport disruptions are part of the territory

8. Optional partnerships

From time to time we may suggest verified third-party insurance partners. Any such recommendation is optional, transparent on cost and coverage, and the policy itself is between you and the insurer.

9. Force majeure

  • Trips may be cancelled or modified due to force majeure events
  • Automatic refunds aren't issued in such cases
  • Insurance is your primary recovery mechanism
  • Force majeure includes natural disasters, government restrictions and pandemics

10. Help & guidance

We can point you in the right direction — but we can't endorse or select a specific policy on your behalf.
