Compact Zanskar, Nubra & Pangong Circuit
A shorter Leh-to-Leh circuit through Kargil, Zanskar, Nubra and Pangong for guests who want the core route without adding Hanle and Tso Moriri.
This is the compact Leh-to-Leh Ladakh circuit for travellers who want Kargil, Zanskar, Nubra and Pangong without adding the longer Hanle and Tso Moriri extension. It keeps the core Zanskar approach, Phuktal day, Nubra valley time and Pangong finish, but stays shorter and easier to schedule than The Full Ladakh Circuit with Zanskar. Choose this route if the group has around 11 days and wants the strongest western Ladakh, Zanskar and Pangong arc. Choose The Full Ladakh Circuit with Zanskar if the group also wants Hanle, Tso Moriri and a more complete eastern Ladakh finish. Choose Ladakh Beyond the Map if guests need a Delhi or Manali-start international route. The journey begins with a gentle arrival and acclimatisation in Leh, before travelling through Sham Valley to the historic frontier town of Kargil. Continue into Zanskar via the dramatic Penzila Pass and Drang Drung Glacier, trek to the legendary ancient Phuktal Monastery built into a sheer cliff, and explore Stongdey and Zangla. Cross Khardung La into Nubra for Turtuk and Thang, then drive the Shyok road to Pangong Tso and return over Chang La.

Questions before you book
Will I have mobile network and WiFi during the trip?
Most stays on this route have WiFi. Very remote camps at high-altitude passes or riverside locations may not — your guide will let you know in advance. For mobile network in Ladakh, a postpaid Jio or Airtel SIM is essential — prepaid SIMs do not work in Ladakh due to Inner Line regulations. Network coverage has improved significantly across the region: Leh, Kargil, Pangong Tso, Hanle, Demchok, Padum, and Zanskar town now have reliable signal on both Jio and Airtel. Expect brief network drops on high mountain passes and remote valley drives between stops — this is normal and part of the remote experience. Download offline maps (Google Maps or Maps.me) before entering remote zones.
Who is this 11-day grand circuit suited for?
Travellers who want a compact Leh-to-Leh circuit through Sham Valley, Kargil, Zanskar, Nubra and Pangong, without extending into Hanle and Tso Moriri. Comfort with long mountain drives, basic homestays in Zanskar, and high-altitude crossings are essential.
How is altitude handled across the circuit?
The first day in Leh is intentionally a rest and acclimatisation day. High passes (Penzila, Khardung La, Chang La) are scheduled after acclimatisation. Every vehicle and stay carries a medicine box and emergency oxygen. Helicopter evacuation cover can be arranged on request.
How demanding is the Phuktal Monastery trek?
It's a moderate ~3-hour one-way trek along a well-worn trail to the monastery, with a return on the same path. The trek does not require technical skill, but reasonable fitness and prior acclimatisation are essential. Local Zanskari guides accompany the group.
What is the best time to do this circuit?
May to early October is ideal, with all high passes and the Zanskar route fully open. April crossings may have residual snow on the passes—our experienced drivers and well-maintained SUVs ensure safety, but the experience is more dramatic.
Can I customise or upgrade the trip?
Yes. Options include private departures, luxury stay upgrades in Leh and Nubra, an optional Hanle/Changthang extension, or shortening the circuit. Talk to the team to design a journey suited to your pace and group size.
