Full itinerary

  1. Arrival in Leh & Acclimatization

We arrive in Leh and transfer to our hotel. Since Leh sits at a high altitude, the first day is dedicated to acclimatization. After check-in, we rest, hydrate well, and allow our bodies to adjust to the mountains. In the evening, we explore Leh’s historic old town and photograph the iconic Leh Palace overlooking the city. We continue to Shanti Stupa for sunset where the changing light over the Stok Range creates excellent opportunities for landscape photography.

    Stay: Leh Hotel

    Meals: Dinner

  2. Leh – Khardung La – Sumur Village, Nubra Valley

After breakfast, we drive across the mighty Khardung La Pass and descend into the spectacular Nubra Valley. Unlike most visitors who stay only in Hunder, we continue towards the quieter village of Sumur. Surrounded by green fields, mud-brick homes, and snow-capped mountains, Sumur offers a more authentic glimpse into Ladakhi village life.

    Stay: Traditional Village Stay, Sumur

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  3. Sumur – Panamik – Turtuk

Today we travel deeper into Nubra Valley towards the remote Balti village of Turtuk. Turtuk remained part of Baltistan until 1971 and still retains a unique culture distinct from the rest of Ladakh. Stone pathways, wooden bridges, apricot orchards, and traditional Balti homes make it one of the most photogenic villages in the Himalayas.

    Stay: Heritage Homestay, Turtuk

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  4. Turtuk – Tyakshi – Shyok Valley

We begin the day with a peaceful sunrise walk through Turtuk before driving towards Tyakshi, India’s northernmost accessible village. The route follows the Shyok River through some of the least explored parts of Ladakh. The landscapes become increasingly dramatic with towering mountains, braided rivers, and isolated settlements.

    Stay: Remote Village Homestay

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  5. Shyok Valley – Merak – Pangong Lake

We continue towards Pangong Lake, approaching through quieter routes and eventually reaching the beautiful village of Merak. Unlike the crowded camps around Spangmik, Merak offers uninterrupted lake views, peaceful surroundings, and incredible photographic opportunities. The changing colors of Pangong during sunset create magical conditions for landscape photography.

    Stay: Merak Village

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  6. Pangong – Chushul – Rezang La – Hanle

Today is one of the most scenic drives of the expedition. We travel along the southern shores of Pangong through Chushul, crossing vast high-altitude plains rarely visited by regular tourists. Along the way we visit the historic Rezang La battlefield and continue through remote Changthang landscapes. As we approach Hanle, the skies become darker and the scenery more dramatic.

    Stay: Hanle

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  7. Hanle Slow Day & Changpa Nomad Experience

Rather than rushing through Hanle, we spend a full day exploring this incredible region. We visit the observatory area, photograph traditional village life, and spend time with Changpa nomadic families who live across the Changthang Plateau with their pashmina goats and yaks. This day is designed specifically for photographers who want to slow down and capture authentic stories rather than simply ticking off destinations.

    Stay: Hanle

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  8. Hanle – Yaya Tso – Kyagar Tso – Tso Moriri

We leave Hanle and travel through one of the most remote regions of Ladakh. Along the way we visit the stunning Yaya Tso and Kyagar Tso lakes, hidden gems known mainly to local travelers and photographers. The route passes through endless grasslands, nomadic camps, and wildlife habitats before reaching the magnificent Tso Moriri Lake. Sunset at Tso Moriri is among the finest photography experiences in Ladakh.

    Stay: Tso Moriri

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  9. Tso Moriri – Tso Kar – Leh

We begin early to capture sunrise over Tso Moriri before starting our journey back to Leh. The route takes us via Tso Kar, home to wild kiangs, migratory birds, and vast open plains. We cross high mountain passes and photograph the ever-changing landscapes of the Rupshu region. We reach Leh by evening and enjoy a relaxed final night in town.

    Stay: Leh

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  10. Ladakh Monasteries & Departure

Our final day focuses on Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage. We visit Hemis Monastery, Thiksey Monastery, Shey Palace, and Stakna Monastery, each offering unique architectural and photographic opportunities. We spend time photographing monks, prayer halls, ancient murals, and sweeping views over the Indus Valley before transferring to Leh Airport for departure.

Questions before you book

What photography gear is recommended?

A sturdy tripod is essential for night sky/astrophotography. Bring a wide-angle fast lens (f/2.8 or wider) for star trails and Milky Way. A telephoto zoom (e.g. 70-200mm) is excellent for nomadic portraits and wildlife around Tso Kar.

How do we handle camera gear in sub-zero temperatures?

High-altitude nights get extremely cold. Bring spare batteries (at least 3-4) and keep them in your inner pockets next to body heat when not in use. Condensation can form when bringing cold cameras indoors—keep them in sealed camera bags when entering warm rooms.

Is this a workshop or a guided photography journey?

It is a private guided photography journey with location planning, sunrise/sunset timing and local access support rather than a classroom-style workshop.
