The Snow Leopard Expedition is a private premium winter wildlife journey in Ladakh, designed around proper acclimatisation, expert local tracking and patient time in the field. The route begins with two nights in Leh at Hotel Pal Ladakh or a similar hotel, giving guests time to rest, adjust to altitude, visit Shanti Stupa, explore Thiksey Monastery, scan the Shey Marshes for birds and understand the landscape before entering snow leopard country. From Day 3 to Day 7, the journey is based at Snow Leopard Homestay in Ulley. Ulley is one of Ladakh's important winter tracking areas, where local spotters read ridgelines, pugmarks, blue sheep movement, carcass signs and the behaviour of the wider mountain ecosystem. The stay is simple, warm and family-run, with 4-5 rooms and common bathrooms. In deep winter, the family kitchen becomes the heart of the experience. This is not a fixed group departure and it is not a safari with a guaranteed sighting. It is a real mountain wildlife expedition for your own private group, with expert trackers, shared scopes and binoculars, SUV support where useful, and long hours of scanning on foot. The search may also reveal urial, ibex, wolf, Himalayan fox and high-altitude birds. Wildlife remains wild; sightings are never promised.

Itinerary
- Day 1 — Arrival in Leh.: Arrive in Leh in the morning and meet your organiser at Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport. Leh sits at high altitude, so the first day is deliberately slow. After arrival assistance, transfer to Hotel Pal Ladakh / similar and check in. The afternoon is kept free for rest, hydration and acclimatisation. Avoid rushing into sightseeing, alcohol or heavy food on this day; the goal is to let the body adjust properly before the wildlife section begins. If you feel comfortable by late afternoon, visit Shanti Stupa for panoramic views over Leh, the Indus Valley and the surrounding Ladakh ranges. After the viewpoint, take a gentle walk through Leh market to pick up any last essentials before moving to Ulley later in the journey. Return to the hotel for dinner and an early night. - Day 2 — Thiksey Monastery, Shey Marshes and old Leh.: Begin the morning with Thiksey Monastery, one of Ladakh's most striking monastery complexes. Its layered whitewashed structure, prayer halls, courtyards and valley views make it a strong cultural introduction before the expedition moves into remote wildlife terrain. Walk slowly and keep the day unhurried, as this is still part of your acclimatisation. After Thiksey, continue to Shey Marshes for birdwatching and quiet time in the Indus floodplain. Depending on season and movement, the area may offer sightings of water birds and other high-altitude wetland species. After lunch, return towards old Leh to explore Leh Palace, a historic royal residence overlooking the town. Continue to Tsemo Castle for its ancient charm and panoramic city views. In the evening, return to Hotel Pal Ladakh / similar for dinner and overnight stay. This second Leh night helps the body adjust before moving higher and deeper into Ulley. - Day 3 — Drive to Ulley via Nimmu and Likir.: After breakfast, leave Leh and drive west on the road towards Kargil and Srinagar, generally following the Indus River. The route passes through Nimmu, where the Zanskar River meets the Indus. This is a useful landscape stop because it shows the wider river system that shapes western Ladakh. Continue north towards Likir, one of Ladakh's well-known Buddhist monasteries. After visiting Likir, the road leaves the main highway and turns onto a narrower dirt road that winds into the Ulley valley, following the stream known as the Ulley Chu. The terrain becomes quieter, drier and more wildlife-oriented as you approach the tracking base. Arrive at Snow Leopard Homestay, Ulley, run by a Ladakhi family. The homestay has around 4-5 rooms with common bathrooms. In deep winter, staying with a local family becomes an important part of the journey: the large warm kitchen, simple meals, conversations with hosts and the rhythm of village life are central to the experience.
