The Nomadic Circuit
A 7-day high-altitude expedition beyond mainstream Ladakh—with two Leh acclimatization days before crossing the Changthang plateau, entering the dark-sky village of Hanle, and travelling over Khardung La into the cold deserts of Nubra Valley.
An extraordinary high-altitude odyssey venturing far beyond the well-trodden paths of Ladakh into the raw grandeur of the Changthang plateau and the cold desert landscapes of Nubra Valley. The journey begins in Leh and unfolds across the mirror-like tranquillity of Tso Moriri, leads to the hallowed isolation of Hanle, and into the ancient world of the Changpa nomads—proud guardians of Ladakh's pashmina herds. Traverse the dramatic Rezang La region before descending into the historic Nubra Valley, exploring wind-sculpted sand dunes and natural hot springs, and finally ascending back via the legendary Khardung La. Accommodation is in traditional Himalayan homestays warmed by in-room tandoor heating—an authentic cultural immersion rather than commercial luxury.

A day dedicated to cultural immersion. Drive across the windswept plateau to meet the Changpa nomads — semi-nomadic pastoral communities producing the world’s finest pashmina wool. Step inside traditional Rebo tents, observe yak and pashmina goat herding, and learn how families survive extreme winters in one of the harshest environments on Earth. Optional stargazing in the evening, weather permitting. Jio and Airtel postpaid signal available at the overnight location. WiFi at most stays.

The Trans-Himalayan Crossing — Hanle to Nubra via Rezang La
After an early breakfast, begin one of the most dramatic and least-traveled crossings of the journey. Traverse the windswept Rezang La region — vast open plains, muted earth tones, and distant snow ridgelines stretching into Tibet’s plateau system. The terrain gradually transforms from barren high plateau to carved valleys, glacial streams, and wider riverbeds before arriving in Nubra Valley, once an important junction on the ancient Silk Route. Jio and Airtel postpaid signal available. Most stays have WiFi.

The Legendary High Pass Return — Nubra to Leh via Khardung La
Begin the ascent toward Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The climb is dramatic — tight switchbacks carve their way upward through rugged rock faces. From the summit, panoramic views stretch across Nubra’s vast valley floor and snow-covered peaks. Descend toward Leh, with arrival by afternoon and time to relax or explore cafés. The expedition concludes in Leh. Network drops at the high pass — expect silence above 4,500m for a few hours. Jio and Airtel postpaid signal returns once you descend to the valley. Questions before you book
Will I have mobile network and WiFi during the trip?
Most stays on this route have WiFi. Very remote camps at high-altitude passes or riverside locations may not — your guide will let you know in advance. For mobile network in Ladakh, a postpaid Jio or Airtel SIM is essential — prepaid SIMs do not work in Ladakh due to Inner Line regulations. Network coverage has improved significantly across the region: Leh, Kargil, Pangong Tso, Hanle, Demchok, Padum, and Zanskar town now have reliable signal on both Jio and Airtel. Expect brief network drops on high mountain passes and remote valley drives between stops — this is normal and part of the remote experience. Download offline maps (Google Maps or Maps.me) before entering remote zones.
Who is this expedition best suited for?
Experienced or curious travelers seeking a raw, high-altitude cultural journey beyond mainstream Ladakh. Comfort with traditional homestays, long high-altitude drives, and limited connectivity is essential. The first two days are designed for Leh acclimatization before the remote route begins.
How are the high altitudes handled?
Routes are designed with progressive altitude exposure. Every vehicle carries a medicine box and emergency oxygen, and rooms in Hanle and Nubra are equipped with traditional tandoor (bukhari) heating. Optional helicopter evacuation cover can be arranged on request.
What kind of stay can I expect?
Authentic Himalayan homestays — Lhamo Homestay in Hanle and a traditional village homestay in Nubra Valley. Rooms are private with tandoor heating; meals are home-style mountain cuisine. The experience prioritizes immersion over commercial luxury.
Are meals vegetarian?
Yes, meals served are predominantly vegetarian Ladakhi home cuisine — warm, nourishing, and well suited to high altitude. Non-vegetarian meals can be arranged on request at additional cost in select locations.
Can I extend with Pangong or a Leh sightseeing add-on?
Yes. Add-ons include a Pangong Tso extension via the Shyok route, additional days in Leh for monastery visits (Thiksey, Hemis), or a private departure customized to your group. Speak to our team to design the extension.
