Winter Spiti Tour

A private Winter Spiti tour from Delhi or Chandigarh: seven heated nights through Kinnaur and Spiti, on the only road that stays open through the winter.

Compare three ways to see Spiti in winter, all on the same seven-night route: Shimla, two nights in Sangla, Tabo, two nights in Kaza and a final night in Kalpa. Each is private to your party, runs from October to March subject to weather, and includes heated rooms.

In winter, Spiti is reached through Kinnaur. The Manali–Kaza road and Kunzum Pass close for the season, while the Shimla–Kinnaur–Tabo road is kept open through the year, apart from short closures after heavy snowfall or landslides. Every Winter Spiti journey we run follows that road.

Journey overview

Winter Spiti Explorer starts at ₹37,500 per person plus 5% GST for six guests, with breakfast and dinner, selected local hotels and cottages, and overnight Volvo travel from and to Delhi. Prices change with group size.

The private Winter Spiti journey is offered as Premium, from ₹65,000 per person plus 5% GST for four guests, with breakfast and dinner, or Luxury, from ₹1,09,000 per person plus 5% GST for four guests, with all meals and upgraded confirmed rooms. Both include Delhi or Chandigarh return bus connections and a Toyota Fortuner 4×4 in peak winter, or an Innova Crysta in low snow.

When to travel

The Winter Spiti season runs from October to March. November and early December bring cold, clear days before the deepest snow; late December to February is the heart of winter, when snowfall is most likely and nights are coldest; March starts to soften.

Snow is never guaranteed on a particular date, and a heavy fall can close sections of the road for a few days. Keep your plans flexible and leave a buffer day before onward travel.

Is Spiti open in winter?

Yes. Spiti stays reachable in winter by the Shimla–Kinnaur route through Sangla, Kalpa, Nako and Tabo, which is kept open through the year. The Manali–Kaza road over Kunzum Pass, at about 4,551 m, is closed for the winter months, so Chandratal and the Manali side are not part of a winter itinerary.

After heavy snowfall or a landslide, sections of the Kinnaur road can close for a few days until they are cleared. Your driver and our local team check the road each morning and adjust the day where needed.

How cold is Spiti in winter?

Very cold. Kaza sits at about 3,650 m, and in mid-winter night temperatures there regularly fall to around −20 °C, and lower during cold waves. Days in the sun can feel mild, but water freezes, and many hotels close for the season.

That is why the stay plan matters more in winter than in summer. Every Winter Spiti journey we run uses rooms with heating included, confirmed before you pay, and the team checks that each property is operating for your dates.

Spiti in December, January and February

December brings the first deep cold and, in many years, the first heavy snowfall. January is usually the coldest month and the most likely to bring snow to the valley floor. February stays wintry, with longer, brighter days towards the end of the month.

In all three months, plan for short daylight, slower driving on icy roads and monastery visits shaped by local routines. A private vehicle and driver let the day bend around the conditions.
