The full range of the Himalayan north
Himachal Pradesh is one of the most varied mountain states in India — a single journey can take you from the warm apple orchards of Shimla's foothills to the stark cold desert of Spiti, from the Buddhist gompas of Lahaul to the Tibetan tea houses of Dharamshala. The altitude swings from 300 metres to over 6,500 metres within the state's boundaries.
Manali is the most well-known gateway, sitting at 2,050 metres in the Kullu Valley. North of the Atal Tunnel lies Lahaul — a broader, starker landscape opening toward Spiti and eventually Zanskar. The Kinnaur district along the Indo-Tibet border holds one of the most dramatic road journeys in India: cliff-hugging sections above the Sutlej River with Tibetan architecture dotting impossible ridgelines.
Dharamshala and McLeodganj bring a different energy — home to the Tibetan government-in-exile and the Dalai Lama's residence, with a vibrant mix of monasteries, mountain trekking and a genuinely cosmopolitan traveller culture. We plan Himachal itineraries that connect these distinct characters into coherent, unhurried journeys.

Planning a Himachal trip
Permits for border areas
Most of Himachal Pradesh is freely accessible to Indian nationals. Inner Line Permits may be required for specific areas near the China border in Kinnaur. Foreigners require a Protected Area Permit for certain zones — we manage all of this for our groups.
Road seasons and passes
Rohtang Pass (Manali to Lahaul) and Kunzum La (Lahaul to Spiti) typically open in June and close by October. The Shimla–Spiti route via Kinnaur stays open longer. We track pass conditions and plan departure days accordingly.
Getting to Himachal
Chandigarh and Shimla are the main gateway cities for the lower valleys. Manali is reached via overnight Volvo from Delhi. For Dharamshala, Kangra Airport has direct flights. We help plan arrival logistics including SUV pickup, Volvo coordination and local transfers.
