Triund Trek Cost in 2026: What You Actually Pay

From a ₹100 day hike to a private night in a heated cottage: every way to do Triund, what each one costs and what the money buys you.

By Himalayan Locals Editorial Team

Ask what Triund costs and you will hear anything from a hundred rupees to several thousand. Both answers are right. The walk itself is nearly free; what you pay for is everything around it: a tent or a room, a guide or none, a shared group or your own pace. Here is the honest breakdown, so you can decide what is worth paying for.

Where the extra rupees actually go

Between a ₹600 tent and a ₹5,000 cottage trek, the walk is the same mountain. The difference is the night and the company. Cheaper camping means a shared tent on the ridge, a sleeping bag, basic or no washrooms and a queue at the stall. Group packages add a trek leader and meals, but you move at the group's pace. Premium camping upgrades the tent: warmer sleeping bags, mattresses and better food.

A private cottage trek changes the night itself. You sleep in a room warmed by a bukhari, with running water, a Western-style washroom and hot water for your bath; your guide carries up to 5 kg of your things; you get an energy kit for the trail; and you are picked up from your stay in McLeod Ganj or Bhagsu. Book it private and the guide is yours alone. It is not a five-star hotel, but after a cold evening on the mountain it is the difference most people remember.

Which one is worth it for you

  • Fit, on a budget and happy to rough it: a day hike, with an early start, is hard to beat.
  • Want sunrise on the ridge and don't mind a tent: book camping with a registered operator, in advance at weekends.
  • First trek, travelling as a couple or with family, or visiting in winter: a private trek with a heated room is the comfortable way to do it.
