Triund Trek Solo: Going Alone, With a Guide or in a Small Group

Triund is one of the friendliest first treks to do on your own. When going alone is fine, when it isn't, and the easiest ways to have company.

By Himalayan Locals Editorial Team

Plenty of people walk to Triund on their own, and on a clear day on the main trail you are rarely alone for long. But a solo trek is different from a solo day: the weather turns, the light goes, and on quieter routes the forest paths split. Here is how to decide between going alone, hiring a guide, or joining a small group.

When going alone is fine

  • You walk the main trail from Galu Devi Temple, in good weather, and start early.
  • You are fit, used to uneven ground and wearing proper trekking shoes.
  • You come back down the same day, or have a confirmed place to stay.
  • Someone knows your plan and when to expect you back.

When a guide or group is the better idea

  • You take the quieter Bhagsu route, where forest paths branch and are easy to lose.
  • The forecast is uncertain, or it is winter and the trail may be icy.
  • It is your first trek, or you want to stay the night up the mountain.
  • You would simply enjoy the walk more with someone who knows it.

Join the daily departure, or book it private

On our daily departure you join a small group of up to four, never a crowd of 15 or 30, and it leaves every day, even if you are the only guest. We pick you up at 10:00 am from your stay in McLeod Ganj or Bhagsu, and at the cottage you share a room with a guest of the same gender. It costs ₹5,000 plus GST, or ₹4,500 if you book a week ahead.

If you would rather have the guide and the cottage to yourself, the private solo trek costs ₹7,000 plus GST, and solo women travellers can ask for a female guide. Either way your guide is registered with HP Tourism, carries a first-aid kit and a pulse oximeter, and Airtel and Jio both work at the cottage, so you can stay in touch with home.

Travel questions

Is it safe to do the Triund trek alone?

On the main trail, in good weather and with an early start, many people walk to Triund alone. On the quieter Bhagsu route, in uncertain weather, in winter or overnight, going with a guide or a small group is the safer choice.

Is Triund good for solo female travellers?

Many women walk Triund on their own. If you would like company, our daily departure pairs rooms by gender, and on a private trek you can ask for a female guide.

How much does a solo Triund trek cost with you?

₹5,000 plus 5% GST on the daily departure (₹4,500 if you book at least 7 days ahead), or ₹7,000 plus GST for a private solo trek. Launch prices apply to treks until 30 November 2026.
